Ok so you’re ready to deliver an amazing speech…

Here a 9 simple tips to help with your best man wedding speech

  1. Prepare yourself about what you are going to say. Take your time to think about what you want others to know about the groom and the bride, and what you wish them for their future.
  1. It’s always a good idea to write it out (it’s not necessary for you to carry the written points to the wedding, but writing it out is always handy as it will help you to remember your key points when you may need them to jolt your memory)
  1. Identify yourself and your relationship with the groom and bride. This is important as everyone may not be aware of who you are.
  1. Speak clearly, slowly, and loud enough so that everyone will be able to easily hear what you are speaking about.
  1. Good etiquette is to start your speech by thanking the parents of bride & groom, as without them, the couple wouldn’t have been born and become the people they are today (Good, bad or ugly, it’s good for a laugh and at least a smile… but maybe be prepared to duck for cover!). Also they typically may have paid a large proportion towards the event, so if appropriate also acknowledge and thank them for making the day so special. Otherwise, if the groom and bride are footing the bill themselves, thank them for organizing such an amazing event and inviting everyone present to share the wonderful occasion.
  1. It’s also a good idea to tell a story, a funny one-liner or a joke, or use an inspirational quote.
  1. Let your guard down. It’s ok to show your emotions. This is the wedding of one of your good friends or closest friends… enjoy it! It’s even ok to cry or becoming emotional.
  1. Keep you best man wedding speech short, to say 5 to 10 minutes.
  1. Finally, end the speech with a message of hope and congratulate the proud groom and blushing bride.
